Otherwise get a Panda Wireless PAU09 N600 dongle. Tltr: See if you can replace the internal wireless card with something Intel or Atheros based. You can also find super low powered junk on Amazon and ebay for less $$, and they will likely let you down. However, I have had success with the 2.4 band. You won't get the 5Ghz band working because rt2800usb sucks. The best bet is going to be the Panda Wireless PAU09 N600 Dual Band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) Wireless N USB Adapter. They'll all run off the rt2800usb module. 99% of the "usb wifi adapter linux" you'll find are Ralink based and some will work better than others.

Ideal is Atheros based stuff, but sadly most of that is going to be like Intel - which means you have to install it. Although in recent kernels they've been a lot better. Ralink and Realtek will make you scream most of the time. The key takeaway isn't brand, it's chipset. Most USB dongles are pretty hit and miss. Needless to say, here is my heartfelt advice. From my ancient Prism chipset Orinico PCMCIA card to a Panda Wireless USB dongle. I own a LOT of wireless devices for Linux.
